Everest, now known as Rajah, is a beautiful, handsome, all white, 4-year-old Great Pyrenees.  He weighs about 92 pounds and is now Heartworm Negative.  Comments from his foster home:

Everest/Rajah is almost perfect!  He loves people, other dogs, children, rides, walks/runs.  Loves to go to Home Depot, Lowes, and Tractor Supply to meet and greet whoever is there.  He gets so excited to go places and meet new friends.  He is neutered, has had no accidents in the house.  Although he does not like to be left home alone, when he is alone, he won't cause a problem. He sleeps most of the day, if he has at least 30 minutes of walking/running in the morning.  He is not aggressive, and he will patiently wait for his food and treats.

Everest/Rajah's tender side:  He is scared by thunderstorms, fireworks, or the possibility of a storm sometime during a day or night. If he is outside, and he hears or thinks he hears "a storm coming", he will bolt and jump like a deer over any fence, including a 6' fence.  After clearing the fence, he will go to the closest house, car, human being he can find, and wants to be with them.  He will not come when called at that time, however, he will jump in the van if you say "Ride?".

So the moral of that tender side story is:  Never ever leave him outside unattended, which is something that one should never do anyway!  All GPAT dogs are to be inside only companion dogs, and not livestock guardian dogs.

Adoption Criteria (adult 1-8 years)

1. Texas Adopters are preferred, as GPAT doesn't have the resources or volunteer support to adopt out of Texas at this time.

2. Adoption Fee: $375.00 (includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test).

3. We only adopt out companion dogs that will be considered part of the family and will be primarily inside dogs.

4. Preference is for applicants to have some knowledge and experience with the Great Pyrenees breed. Specific information about the breed will be shared during the interview/virtual home visit.

5. Secure and visible fencing is required. In a very few cases, fencing options will be considered based on the specific needs of a particular dog.

6. Preference is for applicants willing to provide "positive" training to adopted dogs.

7. All current pets in adoptive homes should be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines.
